Search Dog Coat

Despite her Rhodesian ridgeback heritage, Ebbey prefers colder weather.

Wilderness search dogs should ideally have a two layer coat.

Despite her short fur, Ebbey does very well in cold conditions. The only time I cover her up, is after we stop or during a longer rest break.

Though most of our searches take place at night, Ebbey is a bit prone to heat exhaustion. So I make sure to hydrate her regularly (not easy when a search dog is working) and even wet her fur if needed.
